How to make a Double Z-Fold

I started hosting Zoom Mystery Stamping events online since the pandemic started. Everyone really enjoys them and watching people try to figure out what type/kind of card style we are making is quite entertaining! Fun Folds has been the type of card we make. The best part is that it is a FREE event since you will use your paper, ink, tools, stamps, and patterned paper!! Want to try it out?? Just RSVP at Laura’s Stampin’ UP! website and sign up! I will e-mail the suggested items and paper measurements once you have signed up!

July 9th (Thursday) 8PM (CST)-10:00ish-subscribe to my newsletter and never miss an event! I have online, in person, or card kits for you to choose!

The Celebrate Sunflowers card above is a Double-Z Fold that we did for the June Mystery Stamping! Here is how to make your Double-Z Fold:

Card Base: 4 ¼” x 11” (score at 2 ¾” & 5 ½”) Don’t fold yet •Insert Layer: 3”x  9 ¾” (score at 2 ¾” & 5 ½”) Don’t fold yet. •DSP/Patterned Paper: 5 ¼” x 4 (1 piece); 2 ½” x 4” (2 pieces) •One set or two stamp sets

•Fold your base piece (11”x 4 ¼ ”) at  2 ¾” like a mountain/valley.  You want the 5 ½” part to be flat, and a Z-fold. (Fold your insert piece the same)

*Adhere your matching 2 DSP pieces to the card base that are smaller to the inside of the card and one DSP on the bigger base part of the card. –I used another piece of DSP for the insert middle part. 2 ¾”x 2 ½”. –I cut 2 pieces of Whisper White for the insert: one at 2 ¾” x 4 ¼” & the other at 2 ¾” x 2 ½”. –Decorate your outside piece of Whisper White and tape on the front of the card.

•The easiest way to adhere the two z-folds together is to lay the base piece down and press the folds together.  Then place the insert with the longer side on the front.  You want to be sure it will close prior to gluing it down. •Add extra focal stamps, ribbons, or embellishments!

I hope you will join us for our next Mystery Stamping Zoom class!

OR if you want to get some friends together, I can mail a sample to each participant and we can create them on Zoom as well! You will get the host rewards with your party too! Best part is friends that live out of state can join in the fun too! (and drink with no issues of a drive home)

Sail Away Half-Z Fold

We had a crazy week last week! We live in North Texas and we had a storm roll through last Tuesday night. It caused straight line wind damage to our 26 year old trees! We have one left in tact. One had to be completely removed since it split in half and half was on the house! Our alley was completely blocked by the back two trees and it damaged part of our fence. So hopefully I get a pass for not posting last week!

We did continue with the Mystery Stamping Event via Zoom last Friday. These have been so much fun and seeing everyone’s creations has been so rewarding! I made a power point on how to make a Half-Z Fold and I shared it with the Zoom group. I really need some masculine birthday cards and the Come Sail Away suite doesn’t disappoint! Having a suite really helps coordinate your creations and makes them look professional!

To create this Half Z Fold:

•9”x 5 ½ ” card base of your color choice. Score at 1 7/8″ and at 4 7/8″

2 designs of coordinating Designer Series Paper (DSP) or patterned paper: Main Focal pattern: 2 ¾ ” X 5 ¼” & another with that same pattern 1 ¼ “ x 5 ¼ “; another pattern cut to 1 ½” x 5 ¼”

•2 5/8” x 5-1/4” Whisper White for inside the card.

Adhere your matching 2 DSP pieces to the card base to the front part of the card and the smaller on the right-hand side. –Adhere the Whisper White next to that flush with the 5 ½ side. –Add the last piece of DSP to the small fold.

Then you choose a shape for your anchor piece (mine is the anchor/happy birthday piece)

There are some great deals on the Last Chance products and you can order the Ornate Garden Suite items too! I am at a much needed craft retreat playing with Pre-Order items! (it just re-opened May 1st-it’s only 3 of us-and we are the first since the stay at home started).

Here is the host code for this month! Remember that if you order more than $150-you can enjoy the host benefits for yourself!

Stay safe! Blessings!

Purple Poppies

I always thought poppies were red in color, but when I googled it, I found out there is a wide array of colors! So, I chose to use one of my favorite colors, Highland Heather! I love the stamp with a bunch of poppies! They make a wonderful focal point and it keeps the card simple!

I made this card for my quarterly team gathering and I will also showcase it for my February Sweet & Simple class! This card is so easy to make-you can finish it in 10 minuets! First, stamp the bunch of poppies with Memento Black ink and color with the Highland Heather Blends. Then adhere it to a Basic Black mat that has the Whisper White 1/4″ Crinkle Seam Ribbon. But, did you notice it was green?? I love white ribbon-you can always coordinate your card with Blends! I used the Dark Granny Apple Green for this one!

I finished it off with the single poppy stamped in color on color and the sentiment! Love love the way this card turned out!

Guess what is coming out today?? Coordination dies!!! Sqeee! As a demo, we were able to purchase them during the pre-order.

Check out all the cute dies as Brian shows you all the tips and tricks! He is a genuine and great guy! I have had the pleasure of talking to him several times and he has some great dance moves!

Bonus!!! The Tulip Punch & Umbrella Builder punch coordinate with the DSP!

So, head on over to my store and grab yours today! Be sure to purchase in $50 increments so you can get more bang for your buck! Click on Laura’s Stampin’ Up! website ( on February 4th! Or click on the “shop now” tab at the top!

Wild Yellow Roses

My dear, dear friend (and now downline-who is a rock star) had her birthday a few days ago. I hate giving my club members and downline cards that I have done in classes. (Since they probably made them already) So I whipped this out in about 20 minutes! First I stamped the outline of the rose with Memento Black. I find it easier to use the darker and more crisp images to line up 2 and 3 step stamps. I used Daffodil Delight for the more solid color and Crushed Curry for the more detailed image. The best part of this bundle is that you can cut out the flower with your dies and die cutting machine! AND look at the gorgeous stitched shape for your sentiment!

A picture from our bedroom at our Crafting Getaway this weekend!!

The dies also included the trellis shaped border and shapes to cut out our leaves! So simple, yet a beautiful card!! Get ready, I have already created 8 card designs, made the advent calendar, the tag kit, and some ornaments!! The mojo is flowing!!

Happy Labor Day! Laura

True Blue

This card reminds me of the Cobalt Blue plates that my grandmother had showcased in her china cabinet!  It is a simple, yet elegant card!

The catch is this is a Host set only!  The set also has a lace doily, a detailed bee, and beautiful accents to add more visual effects on your project!

It features the new In Color 2018-2020 Blueberry Bushel and it’s coordinating DSP pack!  If you are just starting out, this is a great card layout for you!  All I used was one color ink, 2 cardstock colors, 1 stamp set, adhesive, and baker’s twine (optional). This is a go to layout for me when I am stumped for a quick card too!  I can change it up a bit with colors, textures, images, and embellishments-and no one notices!

Here is a video to show how simple it is to create! The end has the item numbers too!

Where are my Halloween lovers???  Look what is coming in your mailbox in September!  I CAN’T wait!  I promise that this one will be a sell out, so you will want to subscribe by September 10th to get yours reserved!  You can go month to month, buy a 3, 6, or 12 month subscription, and skip a month too! (just skip by the 10th of the month) img_1585

Soft Dandelions

Don’t you just love dandelions!  It’s such a sweet childhood memory for most!  When I saw this set in the Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalog-it was on my top 3 list!  I needed a technique for my stamp club this week, so I used the plastic wrap technique! It’s such a simple technique and it was perfect to create a soft background for this stamp set!

  1. Use 2 to 3 re-inker colors and place a few drops into the lid of it’s corresponding color.
  2. Use an aqua painter with rubbing alcohol in it and mix a few drops into the ink.
  3. Wad up some plastic wrap and dab into the color.  Randomly smoosh it onto Glossy White Cardstock.

I then stamped the images in Versa Mark and then Silver Embossing powder.  Once it is heat set you can adhere it to the Whisper White mat.  I paper saved the sentiment on the Pool Party base color and punched it out with Classic Label punch.  Then I ran it through the Big Shot with the Tufted Embossing folder.

Be sure to use this month’s hostess code for your own set!  Plus it’s bonus days!

Swirly Bird Wreath

I have seen a ton of posts about how to use the Stamparatus to make a wreath pattern with ease!  Dawn Griffin has a wonderful tutorial that helped spark my creation!  I am holding a class on how to use the Stamparatus on August 5th!  There are so many wonderful tips and tricks that this tool can make stamp placement a piece of cake!

I started off with the Tea Room Specialty DSP for a fun color combination.  I used one of the fun patterned papers from the pack.  Then I used a strip of Crushed Curry to accent the side of the Costal Cabana card base.

I then used the stampartus and a template that I made using the Layering Squares dies.  I am in the process of making a video to show how fun you can have with this technique. GBDH4692

I followed the wreath with the Classic Label punch and a strip of Blackberry Bliss just a little bigger than the width and length of the punch.  Then I trimmed off the sides using the puched piece as a guide.  I then finished it off with Basic Rhinestones and some White Baker’s Twine.

Tropical Birthday

I am in love with the Tropical Chic suite!!  The colors are so fun and vibrant!  But I have to admit that I didn’t look at this set as one of my first “have to have” sets.  My friend used this suite and it just was love at first site!  In fact this is a sneak peek of the Creative Class to Go for August!  (more to come about that in August).

I have made 4 cards already with this set!  This card was really simple to make but it has a lot of character!  I cut a strip of Tropical Escape DSP.  Then I cut a piece of Sparkle Glimmer paper a tad smaller than the Big Shot leaf die.  Next, I took a piece of Basic Black and ran it through the Big Shot with the palm leaves cut outs.  I then placed the glimmer paper behind the Basic Black with Glue Dots.  I popped the whole piece up with Dimensionals and added the birthday sentiment.img_0995

I used the new Shaded Spruce ink pad….it is one of my favorites next to the Granny Apple Green!

Did you know that you can get a FREE ink pad family valued at $67.50 by signing up!  That puts the value of the started kit at close to $200 for just $99 plus local tax!

No Line Watercolor

I saw the Better with You stamp set in the new Annual Catalog, and I had to give no line water coloring a try! I was having a hard time deciding on a color scheme and my friend suggested the mad bluebird!

Photo Courtesy of Stephen L Tabone

I had never heard of them before and he was so cute!!  My water coloring wasn’t exactly no line, but I love how it turned out!

It’s super easy to create!  This will be the technique for club this month!

  1. Use a light color to stamp the image you want to color.  I used Sahara Sand.
  2. Use your aqua painter & ink refills to create the watercolor images
  3. If you want darker shading, wait for the first layer to dry completely.
  4. I did use a Stampin’ Write marker tip to define his eye and beak.
  5. I completed the look with a pearl colored with a black sharpie.

The background of the Balmy Blue is the new Subtle Dynamic Embossing folder!  It turns your card stock into textured in a flash!
