Stampin’ Up! Hot Foiling System: Is It Worth It? + Foiling Tips

We have made it to Week 4 of my Foiling Frenzy Series, and I think this week really shows why I am having SO much fun with the Stampin’ Up! Hot Foiling System!

This week I created THREE cards during my live: one Christmas card featuring Twinkling Tidings and two beautiful fall cards using Lustrous Leaves.

And yes…I’m saving all the measurements and step-by-step instructions for my VIP Email Subscribers! You’ll find a few of my favorite foiling tips here, but you’ll want to join my list to get the complete FREE tutorial.

Get That Beautiful, Crisp Foiled Image!

One of the biggest things I’ve learned during this series is that a few little adjustments can make a BIG difference in your finished foiled image.

During the live, I shared some of my tips for working with the Twinkling Tidings Bundle and getting a clean, crisp result.

A few things to remember:

  • Give your Hot Foiling System plenty of time to heat properly.
  • Make sure your foil is positioned correctly between your Hot Foil Die and cardstock.
  • Pay attention to your layers and the sandwich you’re running through your Stamp, Cut & Emboss Machine.
  • If your first result isn’t perfect, don’t give up! A little experimenting can help you find that foiling sweet spot.

Once you get the hang of it, lifting that cardstock and seeing a gorgeous metallic image underneath is SO satisfying!

Lustrous Leaves + Decorative Masks = WOW!

Next, I switched gears from Christmas to fall with TWO cards featuring the Lustrous Leaves Bundle.

This bundle has quickly become a favorite because you don’t just get beautiful foiled leaf images. It also includes coordinating Decorative Masks!

Foil your image first, then use the masks to add color and suddenly those leaves come alive. You get the beautiful shine of foil combined with soft blended color, and the masks do the hard work of helping everything line up.

I paired both cards with the current Product of the Month, Glow of Harvest 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper. The combination is absolutely perfect for fall!

Do You NEED a Hot Foiling System?

After four weeks of experimenting, I can tell you this machine does so much more than simply add a little shine to a card!

Throughout Foiling Frenzy we’ve used foil on different papers and surfaces, created backgrounds, added detailed focal images, colored our foiled designs, paired them with Decorative Masks, and even foiled muslin bags!

That’s what I love about adding a new tool to my craft room. I don’t want something that only does ONE thing. I want something that opens up completely new ways to use the supplies I already love.

The Stampin’ Up! Hot Foiling System definitely does that!

If you’ve been watching this series and thinking, Okay Laura, I think I need one now… I completely understand! 😉
