Foiling Frenzy Week 1 | Watercolor & Hot Foil Butterflies Made Easy

The wait is over! Welcome to Week 1 of my five-week Foiling Frenzy Series, where I’ll be sharing two brand-new projects each week using the incredible NEW Stampin’ Up! Hot Foiling System and coordinating products.

After spending time experimenting with this machine, I continue to be amazed at the beautiful effects it creates. Whether you love elegant shine, quick cards, or techniques that make your handmade cards stand out, you’re going to love this series!

Project #1: Watercolor & Gold Foiled Butterflies

Our first card combines the soft beauty of watercolor with the brilliance of gold foil.

I began by creating a colorful background on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper using Stampin’ Up! Re-Inkers and Water Painters. This is one of my favorite ways to create a one-of-a-kind background because no two pieces ever turn out exactly alike.

After allowing the watercolor to dry completely, I used the Butterfly Flight Foil Dies with Gold Foil Rolls to foil beautiful butterflies directly onto the background. The metallic gold against the soft watercolor creates an elegant contrast that really makes the butterflies pop.

To finish the design, I used the coordinating Butterfly Flight Dies to cut out the butterflies perfectly. If you enjoy ink blending, you’ll also love the coordinating Butterfly Flight Decorative Masks. Pair them with your favorite Blending Brushes to create perfectly detailed butterflies every time.

Project #2: Let the Foil Do the Work

Sometimes simple designs make the biggest statement.

For my second card, I used Silver Foil Rolls on a Silver Foil Sheet to create an absolutely stunning background. The foiled design provides so much shine, texture, and elegance that it becomes the focal point of the entire card.

The best part? There isn’t much left to do! I simply added a coordinating sentiment label and a ribbon for a clean, sophisticated card that’s perfect for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, sympathy cards, or any special occasion.

This project is proof that the Hot Foiling System can create breathtaking cards without requiring lots of layers or complicated techniques.
